Constructive reflection on election results – Neville, Chairman, Fine Gael
The Fine Gael Parliamentary Party last night held a four hour meeting, to reflect on the results of the Local and European elections, and the bye-elections in Longford-Westmeath and Dublin West. 40 members of the parliamentary party spoke. The tone was respectful and constructive, with strong contributions from a large number of people
The Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Chairman Dan Neville TD said “The was a productive and forward-looking meeting. Members reflected on the success of Gabrielle McFadden TD in the Longford-Westmeath bye-election, a strong campaign from Senator Eamonn Coghlan in Dublin West, and the achievement of the party holding four MEP seats through the efforts of Mairead McGuinness, Brian Hayes, Sean Kelly and Deirdre Clune, as well as brave campaigns from Simon Harris and Jim Higgins.
“The party also reflected on the loss of over 100 excellent councillors and other candidates who were not elected. I am confident that this meeting will be very helpful in ensuring that we learn the lessons of the recent elections and how we can best re-connect with the electorate in an open and compassionate way. “
