Adare – Longterm Tourism must be maintained

“The fire that took place in Adare village last weekend has been a huge shock to the local community and I am very glad to hear that there are no injuries. Our sympathies first are with the owners/occupiers of the houses that were destroyed.

However, it is vital that every step is taken to rebuild the thatched cottages as soon as possible and to prevent long term damage to Adare’s tourism industry” says Dan Neville, Fine Gael TD for Limerick.

“The true extent of the damage to the cottages will not be known until a thorough examination takes place. It is unclear whether major rebuilding works will be needed to restore the cottages. In any case, it is very important to the local economy that swift action is taken to restore the cottages. Initial views are positive that restoration can be completed.

“Adare is a bustling tourism village, with the cottages as the key attraction. I will discuss this issue with my colleague, Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Paschal Donohoe and I intend to express to him the importance of addressing this issue without delay.

“I would like to commend the fire services who attended the scene and everyone who assisted. I commiserate with businesses and those living in the area, who have been directly impacted by this incident. I am committed to doing all that I can to secure support in restoring the area as soon as possible.
